"Be Light"

Be Light

Deep purple crocus open,
offering Spring’s promise
but are taken
by a hard, dry freeze.
They crumple on the still-brown grass
as, sometimes, my spirit is crushed
under heavy obligations and expectations
of my own creation.
Daffodils stand, buds holding tight to the cold
waiting for sunshine and warmth
reminding me of my own strength
to change what surrounds me
into a thing of beauty
by my own desire,
by my own will.

A niggling pain at the base of my neck finally sent me to the chiropractor. It wasn’t intense pain, but had been going on for months and I didn’t want it to become chronic. X-rays showed deposits of calcium causing a bone spur to form on the back of a disc, which in turn pinched the nerve leaving that area of the spinal column. It appears that my body is leaching calcium from the bones and trying to fuse the spine to repair an old neck injury from being rear-ended in a high school car accident.

During part of the treatment session, Dr. Graham mentioned the noise I was hearing was the laser. When I asked what it did, he explained that our cells vibrate at a certain energy level when they are healthy. Stressed or unhealthy cells can vibrate at slower or faster speeds, but will heal much faster if brought back into the proper level of vibration. Major trauma causing scars, burn victims, and diabetic ulcers are responding with amazing results. His neighbor had diabetic ulcers that were being dressed and treated twice a week for months. After five days of treatment with the laser, the wounds closed.

The exponential rate at which science is changing our lives boggles the mind, yet with each discovery—from the way our bodies work to the formation of the universe—we are brought closer and closer to the knowledge that we are energy beings—light beings.

When I was a little girl, I "knew" I was composed of energy that was part of the all that is—the energy of the universe—that had taken form to experience life. This did not meld with my Catholic upbringing. When I was seven and stated my beliefs, my mother drilled me to try to discover who had "filled my head with that nonsense," to no avail. The knowledge was inherent.

At twenty-eight I had a past life regression, but asked the hypnotist to inquire why I was here now, which was much more important to me. I saw my spirit-self, who told me to be light. It took a few years before media consciousness started talking about humans as light sources — although chakras and auras were beginning to make the news at that time. I also signed up for a class on parapsychology at a community college in San Diego. The instructor said we were all vortexes of spinning energy, vibrating at a certain level which, like a tuning fork when struck, reverberated with others of the same level, drawing them to us like a magnet. If you were unhappy with the people in your life, you could change your thoughts to more positive energy emissions, and draw like minds to you.

At forty-two, after 14 years in the Virgin Islands, I moved to Western North Carolina with my family. At the Monte Vista, where we stayed upon arrival, I made friends with the woman at the desk. She told me I needed to attend Unity. Walking in the front door of the old church, I was dumbfounded to see all of the books available on subjects of energy, light, and manifestation! I was home! I attended a service, and knew I belonged; for the first time in my life I had found a community of people who believed in the basic concepts that I had always known.

Now, at fifty-two, I have joined with a group of women who are using the Master Mind, Course of Miracles, and other venues to create positive, abundant lives. One of the women sent me The "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting" Playbook: with the 12 tenets of awakening by Lynn Grabhorn. It is an exercise book to help readers focus on what fills our minds—and make sure it is what we want to attract. Beyond the "thoughts are things" supposition, it emphasizes that thoughts create feelings which send forth vibrations—drawing similar vibrations. It describes how to connect with your deepest desires and put them into manifestation, to live the life of conscious creating we are all capable of enjoying.

In my own life I have created miracles—from building a seventy-five foot schooner and a three bedroom villa with my husband, to manifesting a beautiful home on a wildlife preserve here in North Carolina. I have also wallowed in self-pity and unhappiness, feeling as though my life is overwhelmed with obligation to others. Submitting to the drudgery and stagnation of everyday "must or should dos" drowns me in a miasma of unhappiness. When that happens, dulling my radiance, I realize I have lost my connection with appreciation, conscious desire of manifestation, and gratitude for my blessings, all of which are cornerstones of the triangle of creation. When I am again filled with those aspects, my life is joyous and complete, my light bright.

My Catholic childhood encouraged me to seek forgiveness and to pray for things to happen, or be. In those early years, I struggled with the first issue — sin and its forgiveness — because I was truly a "good girl" who’s only confession was in arguing with her brothers. It got old, week after week, and the priests seemed to question my honesty. Praying for "things" usually entailed trying to find what I had misplaced, as my head was often in the clouds. But, my spiritual connection with nature was the foundation of the fey child I was, and from it I drew immense joy. Nature continues to give me sustenance and keep my consciousness attuned to gratitude for its beauty. Spring awakens my heart to the rays of each flower’s vibrant, glowing light!

With age came understanding. Now prayer is not in asking but in giving thanks for all the good that I have in my life. I am working toward more clarity in my intentions—and manifesting my deepest desires as a part of healing myself and our world. I am radiating my light, seeing it reach out and touch all I come in contact with and, in my meditations, to hold and support the light of our world. I am raising my energy level to attract like vibrations and have a positive effect on the world. I am finding my heartbeat of happiness in being a voice, in writing and speaking on a conscious level—of creating heaven within and without.
