Marina Raye: "The Heart of Compassion" ~ 2pm.

Marina Raye is an internationally-known recording artist who was born in the Congo. She draws inspiration from her deep love for the Earth as she shares her vision of a healed Earth. What makes Marina’s music so special is its deeply emotive quality which opens the heart to peace. The uniqueness of Marina’s original flute compositions has earned her the description, “The Feminine Voice of the Native Flute.”

Trained as a classical musician, Marina has been called a sonic shaman because of her mastery of the native flute. Her music is much-loved by healers and meditators. Her CD, Nature’s Enchantment was voted one of the top ten CDs for 2005 in the alternative music market.

Allow the enchanting melodies of Marina Raye’s native flutes to lead you on an exquisite journey into a world of peace, compassion and bliss. If you feel called to walk gently on the Earth and assist in the vision of a healed world, please join us for this special event.

Richard Shulman & Friends ~ 2:00pm. Richard is a multi-talented musician, so we'll have the opportunity to view several facets of his musical personality. richheartmusic.com
Richard's Music for Meditation, Inspiration, Healing, and Enlightenment.

The Richard Shulman Group - Richard's original jazz compositions... Richard Shulman (jazz piano), Mike Holstein (bass), Sonny Thornton (drums), with guest appearances from Lytingale (vocals) and Linda Kendall-Fields (violin)

Featuring some songs from Richard’s new musical on the theme of Camelot Now.

Keyboardist and composer Richard Shulman creates music intended to be a positive influence for himself, audiences, and society. Bringing beauty into the world is his passion, and the expression of inspiration with those he works with provides a fertile field for creation.

Shulman's new release with cellist Adriana Contino, New Beginnings, exemplifies the delicate balance between inner and outer listening as they explore free flowing improvisations as well as upbeat and lyrical compositions. Spontaneous magic occurs in the interweaving of cello and piano.

His award winning CD, Camelot Reawakened: A Vision Fulfilled, musically portrays a rebirth of the Camelot ideals. "The theme is the fulfillment of dreams of the heart for individuals and society," he explains. "The most beautiful world imaginable can happen, and I trust this music will contribute to its manifestation." Composed and orchestrated by Shulman over a five-year period, Camelot Reawakened is a contemporary-classical, nine-movement symphonic work featuring Shulman on acoustic piano with a 35-piece orchestra, a choir, and vocal and instrumental soloists. Shulman's many CD's are available in stores nationwide and from RichHeart Music (888-699-3682).

According to Shulman, "For the past 19 years, album-by-album I have been attempting to create music which will encourage a harmonious society envisioned by many spiritual traditions, forward thinkers and ordinary people." This journey has resulted in 18 of his own albums as well as other recordings for which he has provided the music. Trained in the classical field, Shulman first worked as a rock musician and then a jazz pianist before turning to music for healing and inspiration.

Shulman has performed at Carnegie Hall, Art Park, the United Nations, the Kool Jazz Festival, The Amenia Peace Festival, and a wide variety of other venues in North America and in Europe. He has composed music for and performed on more than a dozen albums by others, including speakers in the field of guided meditations and visualizations. During residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, he composed music for orchestra and jazz quartet; and for a decade he was the principal composer for "Theatre of the Heart," a cooperative of dancers, singers and musicians dedicated to preserving community and the environment. Shulman's commissions include a piece for the Amherst Saxophone Quartet, and "May Peace Prevail on Earth" (for singers, symphony orchestra, three choirs and jazz quartet) created for the World Peace Prayer Society.

Born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York, Richard often listened to symphonies on record and in concert as a youngster. His family got him a piano and he began lessons at age seven which continued through high school, although he also studied violin for a year and clarinet for five years. As a teenager Richard also played organ at various churches, was the music counselor at a summer camp in Canada, and joined a rock band with future jazz recording artists Thom Rotella and Bobby Previte. Shulman graduated from the University of Rochester with a double-major Bachelor's degree in music (piano performance) and psychology while continuing to perform with Previte in the jazz-fusion band Thermopylae. Shulman's early musical influences were Beethoven, Bach and Chopin; in high school it was The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix; and in college it switched to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Paul Winter, Oscar Peterson and Ray Charles, followed a few years later by Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, and Chick Corea.

While at Rochester, Shulman also attended the prestigious Eastman School of Music and studied jazz improvisation with Chuck Mangione and Marian McPartland, arranging with Rayburn Wright, and orchestration with Donald Hunsberger. Shulman continued his studies in jazz with Frank Foster while getting his Masters Degree in musical composition at the State University of New York at Buffalo. During those years he played onstage in concert with such jazz stalwarts as Thad Jones, Eddie Gomez, Pepper Adams, Jerry Dodgion, Freddie Hubbard and Al Harewood, and recorded his first jazz album, Wonder. After moving to New York City, Shulman played in the studio as a session musician with the great jazz rhythm section of Ron Carter and Grady Tate; performed with groups such as The Richard Reiter Swing Band, Providence, and Crossing Point; and recorded and performed with the acts Mr. Spats (Steve Evans, June Bisantz, Steve Swallow and Bob Moses) and Bobby Previte. The Richard Shulman Group, a jazz quartet, played regularly in the New York area and recorded the albums A Simple Gift and Open Spaces, and Richard also released the solo jazz piano album Solo Flight.

Shulman began moving beyond the jazz scene in New York City when he recorded his first extemporaneous solo piano album, World Peace, on the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima (he performed at a peace meeting the same day). This led Shulman into the world of new age music. Richard was then asked by a healing practitioner to play for clients, which began Shulman's practice of creating special "Musical Soul Portrait" recordings for individuals, couples and groups (he has done more than 600 so far). Shulman released some of this type of music on the albums A Higher Dimension, Light Music, Music for Magnified Healing, First Rites, and Sacred Music for Healing Hands Volumes 1 & 2.

Shulman's first two album releases with national marketing were Light from Assisi and Transformation at Assisi, inspired by spiritual pilgrimages to the town of Assisi in Italy where St. Francis lived. Richard laid more groundwork for Camelot Reawakened with a pair of recordings -- Ascension Harmonics and the partially-orchestral Keeper of the Holy Grail -- with "spiritual attunements" by Samuel Welsh.

In 1996 while preparing to do a "Musical Soul Portrait," Richard had a vision of a sword coming down from heaven. His client said, "I have one word for you: Camelot." The music created that day was the beginning of Camelot Reawakened. Over the next few years, he received other melodies about Camelot while doing soul portraits and during the recording of his First Rites and Music to Walk the Labyrinth albums. "There were many threads that came slowly together to form the entire web. Synchronicities happened throughout the project. It was a spiritual adventure." In January 2002 the Camelot piece was unveiled in concert and recorded live. A DVD/video of the project was released in June of 2005.  He is currently composing a musical theatre production on the theme of Camelot Now.

"I believe now is the time to begin opening ourselves again to living in harmony with one another, and in harmony with the entire universe, by each of us recognizing our dream within and fulfilling that vision as our contribution to the whole."

Concert: Scott Kalechstein ~ 7:30pm.  Scott Kalechstein performs original songs with his guitar & voice. He spices up his repertoire with songs created spontaneously based on topics suggested by the audience. His intention in his singing and songwriting is to offer both entertainment & education, upliftment & enlightenment. He uses his art as a vehicle to inspire transformation, to fuel dreams, to encourage self-esteem, and to help us lighten up in those places where we all can get weighed down in life.
When Scott sings, you may be prone to laughing uproariously at yourself or at the human condition. You may also wipe away tears during the very next song. With a luminous, loving and mischievous twinkle in his eyes, Scott makes personal contact with everyone present and does not hide behind a performance facade. With each song he shares an intimate part of himself. No matter how large the audience, you may feel as if you were alone with Scott in your living room, listening with a fire crackling in the fireplace. The warmth will penetrate your skin and touch your heart.  www.scottsongs.com

Tickets: $10 in advance; $15 day-of-show. Click for directions.

"What a presentation! Scott brings such love, joy and laughter through his music. His ability to interact with the audience and instantly compose spontaneous songs created in the moment baffled us. I heard several times, “How did he do that?” If you are fortunate enough to hear Scott or have the opportunity to bring him to your event, you will not be disappointed!" ~Tim McLeod, Sierra Tucson AZ Recovery Center.

Dada Nabhaniilananda: Meditation Workshop & Concert~ 2:00-5:00pm.
Dada will give an audio-visual presentation about the history of meditation & what it is, and through some simple guided exercises, he will demonstrate how it works. He will introduce the group to a universal technique of spiritual meditation which you can practice at home.

Originally from New Zealand, Dada has been playing music all his life, and was ordained as a monk of Ananda Marga Yoga Society in 1979.  Combining his spiritual training and knowledge of the science of Mantra with his considerable musical skills, he has created an uplifting presentation on a theme of love for the Creator and His Creation, titled ‘Warriors of the Rainbow’.

Dada meditating on the coast of Ireland

Although he is a yogi, Dada’s music is western rather than Indian in style. He plays guitar and sings devotional songs and chants, interwoven with humor, spiritual stories and images of nature. Dada’s presentations are always a moving and spiritual experience.

Dada has received invitations to conduct performances and workshops from all over the world. He is a the author of a highly acclaimed book on meditation; ‘Close Your Eyes & Open Your Mind.’  www.eternalwave.com or www.myspace.com/dadanabhaniilananda

Suggested Love Offering: $10-$15. Click for directions.

What people say about Dada Nabhaniilananda’s music:
"Through his message and beautiful music, Dada Nabhaniilananda inspired us to re-commit to our meditation practice. He is so centered, and his presence is at once calming and energizing. He is an articulate speaker and an accomplished musician... I expected that, having listened to his CD. What surprised us both was how closely the philosophy of the Tantric Yogi's aligns with Unity teachings ... a beautiful example of how Unity weaves Eastern and Western spirituality." - Rev. Catherine Padgett, Unity Church, Greensboro NC

"Dada Nabhaniilananda offers an authentic and sincere sharing of heartfelt song and guitar. His gentle demeanor, combined with a loving and compassionate perspective and refreshing sense of humor, provides his audience with a gratifying experience of original music and soulful fellowship. We will certainly re-engage Dada for another presentation at Unity in the near future." - David Richter, Director of Music, Unity Center of Peace Church, Chapel Hill NC

"I highly recommend Dada Nabhaniilananda as an excellent musician and meditation teacher. He is delightful and deep, in his music and his insights about meditation and life itself. His course and concert are a superb complement to any meditation class or program you may have going at your Unity Centre. Enjoy his delightful spirit and his loving soul." -John Wingfield, Director, Unity Centre, Maidenhead, UK

Review: New Renaissance Magazine, UK

From the softly strummed opening chords, the restrained and tasteful instrumentation places the melody, the message and Dada's warm voice at the heart of every track. You may not expect this kind accessibility from a mystical monk, but Dada's songs grab your attention like a smile.  These intimately honest songs ache with the kind of pain that is inseparable from all love, including alas! the love for God. Fans of Dada's special knack for epic songwriting, that made "Warriors of the Rainbow" shine with majesty and grandeur, will not be disappointed.... As the title track's rousing chorus ends, I feel some of "the Magic" Dada sings about linger in the air, and the future, in these days of war and conflict, looks just a bit brighter. Truly uplifting music.

Review: Rio Times 1992 (translated from Portugese)
Concert at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit
Dada Nabhaniilananda gained a lot of new fans in Rio last night. Following John Denver’s solo performance, the singer/songwriter from New Zealand, backed by a group of hot Brazilian musicians, came on stage for an hour long set. No-one knew quite what to expect from this smiling monk in orange robes but they didn’t wonder for long. Within moments he had them on his side, his clear melodic voice transcending any language gap. Brazilians know quality musicianship when they hear it, and they showed their appreciation with pin-drop silence, the crowd of 5000 plus listening as I’ve seldom seen them do. If a special atmosphere prevailed, it should have, for this was the beginning of a night long spiritual vigil incorporating diverse religious and spiritual groups. Dada’s songs were perfect for the occasion.  ...this was part the “Earth Summit”, an international gathering of more than 30,000 people united by a concern for social justice and a sustainable future for the world. When the band performed “Warriors of the Rainbow”, the title track of Dadas’ last album, a kind of anthem for the environmental movement, at the song's dramatic climax the audience went a little wild, which in Brazil means very wild indeed! This was followed by spiritual love songs, tales of struggle against oppression, songs of hope and compassion – moving stuff.... Part of the beauty of the whole experience was that although this was undoubtedly music with a message, it was presented with such simple honesty and obvious native talent that I only wanted to listen. It was over all too soon, but I’ve got the album, so I can reminisce. The vigil continued all night with chanting, dance, meditation, and at dawn the stage opened again. Just before the Dalai Lama, the guest of honour, came on to speak, Dada was again on stage, accompanied by Paul Winter in a spiritual chant in which the much larger crowd of more than 10,000 joined. Magic!

"I just wanted to thank all the wonderful musicians and performers for the great concert we were privileged to see on Friday evening. You were all amazing and we thank you all so much for bringing so much enjoyment to your audiences." ~Joe and Judy W

"... how very much we both enjoyed the show! It was so professional--not what we expected at all! I got excited during the overture (just like I do in NYC) and those folks kept my attention until the end. In fact we couldn't believe the time that had elapsed. There are some really good voices in that company, aren't there; the ensemble numbers were especially fun. My absolute favorite number was Nothing--and that Linda Newman did a fabulous job! We have seen A Chorus Line at least seven or eight times, as (our son) Mark toured in it, and still play the original cast recording; Linda must have it also as she really captured the feeling. The costumes were wonderful... Georgia Pressman should have a gold star as she was great.  I'd say a smash hit all around. Congratulations!" ~ Marjorie T
