Faith has been defined as an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable. From time to time life may present us with a situation that seems hopeless to resolve. We may anguish over outcomes that seem imminent or abandon our desires because we see them as being unlikely to occur. With our limited vision we see limited outcomes. However God’s Imagination is greater than ours and can present us with opportunities we could never foresee. It is with this limitless power to create, that new matter, conditions, and circumstances can miraculously manifest themselves in our lives. Our past or the seeming obstacles of our present do not dictate God’s future for us. Spirit’s guidance is our wealth, and comes in the form of Divine Ideas waiting to be developed. Letting go of our own idea of how things should present themselves allows for God’s overall design. When we quiet our minds through prayer and meditation, we consciously attempt to experience more of God’s presence in our life. Faith begins with that awareness. When we ask and expect specific outcomes from our prayers, we may not only be disappointed but we may miss out on the blessings that are being offered to us. As forgiveness releases us from our past, faith releases us from our future. Keeping our peace by reducing our anxieties asks us to stay out of every moment that does not belong to us. It is by the words of the Master that we are advised to, "Take no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself." We live only one instant at a time. Each time we "let go and let God" we are freed for the quickening of Spirit’s divine idea. Like Love, Faith exists, it is not gained. We are each born with all the faith we will ever need. We may, however, gain not from questioning the quantity of our faith but rather its quality. It has been said that "Adversity is the first path to the truth." We often call upon our faith in the times of our greatest need, but the highest reward of this surrendering is not the outcome of our desires but the gift of our experience. Credo ut intelligam: I believe in order that I may understand. © 2002 Karen Ryan
