Voice Lessons & Class
The Source of Joy
No one knows what makes the soul wake up so happy!
Maybe a dawn breeze has blown the veil from the face of God.
A thousand new moons appear.
Roses open laughing.
There’s no answer to any of this.
No one knows the source of joy.
~ from poem by Rumi

Sing
For Joy Voice Class
|
| Experience the synergy of two voice teachers:
Terri Crosby & Lytingale as
they combine their vocal & teaching skills in a fun and nurturing class setting. |
 |
We sing together, then each person sings
solo, giving a little performance sizzle to the experience, as we learn from
and for each other. Listening to other voices in an intimate and safe
setting is an invitation to become more aware of your own voice, what it can
do, how it can change and grow.
Get to know your voice, stretch vocally, emotionally or whatever way is poignant
for you personally, sing solo in front of others, all while focusing on the positive
aspects of your voice, your sound and your expression. Come on and sing a
little!
A variety of voice work will be covered, whatever is most supportive of
overall progress. This means the class is "tailor made" to the
participants, and no two "Voice Class" series will be alike! Each
person will declare a list of personal goals so the content will support where
you are and where you are going.
- Vocal workouts & exercises for flexibility and strength.
- Performance - each week you will sing for the class in a loving
& supportive environment, with an accompanist, and receive feedback
and tips.
- Learn new songs & a variety of ways to practice your
songs
- Sound Games and improv exercises to get you out of your head and into your
experience.
- Vocal Anatomy - the miracle of making
sound.
- What is "Twang"? What is
"Nasality"? What is "Belting"? How and
when do you use various voice qualities?
- Breathing & Posture - supporting
a free sound
- Vocal toning. How is it valuable? When to use it and why?
- Vocal improvisation. Find your vocal feet with no road map. What could
possibly be more fun?!?
- Simple physical yoga-type exercises to "open the heart" and chest,
to engage your whole body, and
keep core vocal support muscles strong and ready to help you sing your best.
- Being in the song - finding & telling the story & the
emotion
- Vocal tips and tricks - best fixes for vocal issues and performance
- "Belt Class" with Terri - experience what "belting" is all
about
Why do we call it "Sing For Joy"?
- Because you are singing to experience more joy into your life.
- Because you are singing to remember the joy that you are.

whatever concerns you bring to the class.

"I appreciated the voice [class] and the way
you are conducting it. Your method is gentle and supportive,
especially for those who are needing more confidence and support.... "
|
|
"When I took my first voice class with Lyte and Terri last fall, I was still
recovering from an accident I had three years ago. I was walking with 2
canes and could barely drag myself into the room. I found the class, both
students and teachers very friendly and supportive. My love for
singing inspired me to do more and take more chances not only by
expressing myself through singing but in other creative areas as well. Self
acceptance led to letting go of fear and walking with more confidence,
strength and purpose. The voice class has assisted me in breaking
through barriers and embracing not only my life more fully, but the
lives and aspirations of others as well. My husband said that the change in
me has made him much happier too!" |
|
After our first team-taught Voice Class with Terri & Lyte, the class members said this about the benefits
they received. This is a pretty wonderful list... so give a thought to what a Voice Class could do for you!
We asked participants: "What Has Improved Since Attending 6 Sessions of Voice Class?"
Here is what they had to say.
1. I've gained confidence about my voice.
2. I have a stronger voice now - I can sing louder and my voice is clearer.
I'm getting my voice back!
3. I learned that I don't have to compete to be the best. Every voice is
unique, every voice has its own beauty. There is no need for competition,
and no need to worry about my voice being "good enough." I am
appreciating my voice more every day, and the voices of others as well.
4. I find it easier to sing in front of others, I'm more relaxed
singing solo, and I enjoy it more.
5. The class helped me realize how much I love singing. Singing is
very important to me!
6. I've progressed from total nausea at the thought of singing in front of
others - to being present and enjoying it. Wow - not bad!
7. Something huge for me -- I learned that I can take constructive
criticism - and I won't die!
8. When it comes to singing solos, I learned that a big voice is better,
even if it's the wrong note! At least I'm getting myself "out
there!"
9. I can smile and sing at the same time - who knew?!?
10. Singing solo is really different than singing in a choir. In singing
solo, it works best to let it all out!
11. Coming into the class, I didn't read music at all. During these
classes, I learned some basics about reading music, which have been
very helpful to me.
12. The more often I sing, the happier I am. I notice that if I
sing in the morning, even for a little while, my whole day goes better.
13. I really appreciated the encouragement to branch out
musically. I sang music in this class I would never have considered singing
before, and I'm glad about it!
14. I can sing higher notes more easily. My range is WAY bigger than
I thought. I had no idea....!!!
15. I breathe more deeply when I sing -- and also when I speak. I didn't
realize I was starting my sentences with empty lungs. My voice now feels
healthier and stronger.
16. For me, this class has been a performing therapy class. It has
helped me so much.
17. I'm opening up my throat, relaxing my vocal apparatus, and I'm on my
way to notes I've never sung before.
18. I appreciated the opportunity to sing a song -- a solo song -- with an
audience. I've never really done that.
19. I open my mouth more when I sing. I've gone from being afraid to hear
myself to trusting what comes out.
20. In each class we learned a number of useful vocal tips -
for instance, when I practice an entire song on a vowel sound, and then go
back to singing words, I notice my overall tone has improved.
21. This class has taught me how to ask a question (vocal or otherwise)
that takes me in the direction of where I want to go instead of into the
"problem" at hand. I didn't expect this class to be a philosophy
of life class, but it is... we didn't just learn about singing. We learned valuable
ideas I can take away into other areas of my life.
So what have you got to lose?
And more important, what have YOU got to gain?
