"Oneness" by Gabrielle Thompson

I was asked to speak on the commonality of being on the evening of September tenth. I hold an innate belief that we are all energy and that energy is the source of the all that is. I have believed this to be true since my earliest memories. Although we live in a world of polarity with heads and tails, it is all part of the same coin. In my childhood I was able to feel this connection with animals and communicate mentally with them, from cats to rattlesnakes. When I came up short, well-within striking range, upon a coiled rattler on a high school field trip, I immediately soothed him with my mind even though I had not ‘talked’ to any wild animal since grammar school. We stood locked in eye contact for minutes while his tail gave warning. The rattle ceased as I noticed how beautiful he was, with gentle, subtle color patterns. Ever so slowly, he uncoiled and slithered past, choosing a path inches from my foot. I never held any fear of wild things because I related to them as an extension of myself. Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land opened my mind to "grock" that rocks and grass were just denser forms of the same source. In my twenties, I read Kinship With All Life by J. Allen Boone, who came to understand this interconnectedness through a dog named Strongheart, a German shepherd made famous by Hollywood. Strongheart’s capabilities went well beyond ‘training’ and he was able to pantomime his desires until mere humans understood his message. Strongheart demanded to be read to every night and would show his displeasure if the reader did not resume in the exact spot where he had left off the previous evening. The author, enlightened by his canine companion, went on to apply this knowledge to other animals. He says in a chapter on rattlesnakes that they seldom bit Indians in olden times but would strike a white man because of the ‘malicious intent,’ repugnance, horror, and alarm that exudes from him. He went on to state, "If you look deep into the thinking and motives of the Indian, you would discover the simple secret of it all, for you would find that he was moving as best he knew how in conscious rhythm with what he reverently called the Big Holy, the great primary Principle of all life, which creates and animates all things and speaks wisdom through each one of them all the time." The snake was not fearsome to the Indian, he was a "younger brother." Over the ensuing years, I read many other authors who agreed with this principle, my favorite being Pat Rodegast’s channeling of Emmanuel’s Book II: The Choice for Love. The book explains polarity as the choice between love and fear. Emmanuel tells us: What might love look like beyond planet earth? Scientists tell us that our body’s composition is consistent with the sea, the moon, and the asteroids that have fallen to earth. We are vortexes of energy on a vibratory level with all that is. It is that level that connects us—that is our higher self. When we reach it—through meditation, being in nature, praying, writing, or running—whatever puts us into the zone, we are one with God. Your heart knows what is true, and remembers. Humans tend to believe only what they can perceive through their physical senses. This negation of inner-knowing causes the loss of connection to those immanent perceptions. Can you see the back of your head without a mirror? Does that mean it does not exist? And your recognition of who you are is a mirrored, therefore reversed, reality. Does that posit that you really don’t know yourself as well as others know you? On the eve of September eleventh, I wanted to express how I view humanity: as fingers on the same hand, part of a body that is our world, part of a community that is our universe. It is all connected, all one, with no real separation. There are different choices and paths that lead to disparity in our thoughts: Choose Love. Do not look at your brother with fear. Do not buy into war as an answer. Cease the "them against us" mentality and see that we all—Americans, Middle Easterners, Russians, Asians, Africans—are one. We are citizens of the world as well as our nationality, as well as our religious preference. It is through our differences that we learn acceptance which leads to unity. Our world can be healed if we choose love over fear and interrelate from our highest self. Kahil Gibran, one of the most famous writers from the Middle East says in the Prophet, "In your longing for your giant self lies your goodness: and that longing is in all of you." Emmanuel tells us on page 68 that "The more you remember Oneness, the more you are willing to live fully in your world." I become overwhelmed with all of the "should do’s" in my life which leads to sidestepping going within and reconnecting to that Oneness, but I want to live fully in my world. It is through this bond that my heart tells me what is really important. It is where I find out what I really know, and it allows me to go forth to demonstrate that knowing by doing. It is the expression of the Divine manifesting through me, the Creator creating. It is love. I wish you all many blessings this Thanksgiving, and that your heart be filled with love and compassion and understanding. I wish you peace. And, I wish you the joy of connection with your divinity.
